EOS stands for Environmentally Optimised Sprayer, and the tool was developed as part of a multi-stakeholder project 2010. The project is aimed at providing information for sprayer manufactures and application experts on aspects important to be considered in the development and design of sprayers in order to further reduce the risk of water contamination.
It is clear that a consistent water protection strategy needs to focus on the whole crop protection process, which includes the product, operator training, and infrastructure (e.g. storage, filling / washing places) and application equipment. Most important in this context is the correct behaviour of the operator, but technologies are important enablers to reduce risks.

EOS is designed in the form of an online questionnaire, based on different technologies which have been evaluated by a team of experts (see partner list below) on their potential to reduce the risk for water contamination.
(www.TOPPS-eos.org). Two different kinds of application techniques are evaluated:
Field sprayers and common Orchard / Vineyard sprayers. The EOS can be run in 10 different languages. For further information a handbook which explains and documents the EOS tool can be downloaded.
