Field Manual

Decision support tool (Dashboard)
The Field Manual explains how to conduct a field audit. It includes practical methods to be applied in the field to categorize the key pesticide runoff risks from fields.
Three dashboards (decision support) have been developed to evaluate the risk of pesticide runoff in specific fields.
  • Runoff due to surface infiltration restriction
  • Runoff due to subsurface drainage restriction
  • Concentrated runoff / erosion due to water flow convergence
Additionally guidance is given on the design and size of vegetative buffer strips.

Tiglione Catchment Italy-Case study

TOPPS prowadis worked for the runoff diagnosis aspects in specific catchment areas to practice and develop the catchment and field diagnosis.

·        First we collected data available for the catchment (desk research) (There are already a lot of data available at different places)

·        Then we walked the catchment to describe the water pathways in the landscape and to check variation e.g. slope, field size, soil properties, existing mitigation structures.

·        Runoff risk audit by applying the dashboard method in individual fields.

·        Discuss and propose mitigation measures considering the catchment aspect and individual fields

The catchment area approach was very valuable for practical learning of advisers and also to integrate practical farmers in the whole process.
